Wordless Wednesday -- Clowning Around!

Well, it's pretty much wordless!

Here's us being clowns at a birthday party in Reforma last week. We did the "Jesus is the Key to Eternal Life" drama.

Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Cool Photo Thursday

I see so many interesting sights here. Thought I'd share one today.

Wonderful old tree outside the church in Tamazula, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Good, Clean Fun

July in Sinaloa. Daytime temps well over 100. Humidity above 75%. Wherever there's water running, there you'll find children playing.

Silent Sunday -- Life's a Beach

I don't know if you had to "be there" to really feel this picture. Let me know what emotions you have when you see this photo, and I'll post on Monday the photo's background.

Alright, here's what I thought as I watched this little guy play in the waves...

The little boy is about 6 or 7 years old. Like most of us who live only a few blocks from the beach, he seldom plays in the ocean. He has no beach toys, no pail, no shovel. I don't know his home situation, but if he is like most small boys of the village, home is not a very happy place. Perhaps Dad is a drunk. Perhaps mom yells a lot. But right now, at this moment, he is flying above the waves. Soaring! Free! Can't you hear him squealing with delight as the waves rush past him? He's Superman!

Moo-ve Over!

This photo was taken on the road to Guasave last Saturday. It's one of several reasons why people don't often drive at night in Mexico!

Wordless Wednesday -- Friday Edition

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105

Special thanks to Dann Hagstrom who snapped this photo of Braulio when the Restoration Life team was here.

Not-Quite-Wordless Wednesday

Several Bible verses come to mind when looking at this photo, which was taken at a shop in the mercado of Culiacan...

The first passage is from Psalm 115:4-8 "Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes, but they see not. They have ears, but they do not hear; noses, but they smell not. They have hands, but they handle not; feet, but they do not walk; neither speak through their throat. Those who make them are like them; so is every one who trusts in them."

The other verse is 2 Timothy 4:3 "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but, after their own lusts, shall heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth and shall be turned to fables."

And finally, and maybe the most relevant, is the apostle Paul's discourse on Mars Hill...
"Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious. As I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, 'to the unknown God'. Whom therefore, you ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you." Acts 17:22-23

The Jewish star of David displayed next to the fat, bald guy with flower petals in his stomach made me sad. And does anyone know the significance of the 'Jesus figure' with a red horn on his head?

Wordless Wednesday

I find myself wondering...which is the most beautiful: a sleeping baby, an incredibly purple flower or a sister in Christ listening intently to the Word as it is read. I tend to think it's a toss-up.

Wordless Wednesday

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalms 27:1

Wordless Wednesday

Sometimes, one photo is just not enough...Tito laughs when I ask if a machete is an electrician's tool. (hover your mouse over the photos for more explanation.)

It's totally safe. Just don't touch the wires together.
And if you don't have electrical tape, a plastic grocery bag works just fine.

Cultural adaptation.

Wordless Wednesday (Thursday Edition!)

Well, not exactly "wordless".

What do you do when you have an upstairs apartment and want to build a deck and put new, nicer pillars under it?
Yes. This concrete and steel building is being supported by 3 rough-cut 2x4s while they pour new pillars You hammer a couple of good, solid 2x4 studs in there and knock out the old, ugly pillars. Then you can pour new pillars and connect your deck to the house. Would anyone like to venture a guess as to how many pounds are being held up by those three 2x4s? Keep in mind that everything here is constructed with concrete and steel.

I hope the residents are staying with friends till the construction is over!!!

Silent Sunday

Do not store up for yourself treasure on earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourself treasure in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupt, and where thieves do not break through and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
